Mònica Aguilera win the Marathon des Sables 03/05/2010
Mònica Aguilera from the Salomon Santiveri Outdoor Team has won the 25th edition of the Marathon des Sables, one of the most famous on foot multiday race in the world. The Catalan athlete joined the race for the first time and completed 254 km in 29h54’11’’. Challenged by the extreme temperatures and desert conditions, she led the women’s category from the first day. Her success confirms her excellent physical condition: Mònica was second in the 100 km of Sahara less than a month ago and third at the Ultra Trail del Mont Blanc held in summer.

The Marathon des Sables is a self-supported 6-day stage race with a total of 254 km across the Sahara desert. It’s the toughest on foot race in the world. The participants have to endure stages of up to 80 km, such as the main stage on the fourth day of the race. Runners have to face temperatures around 50º C and carry their own food and gear throughout the race. A total of 1,090 athletes representing 43 countries and distributed in 46 teams entered the race. 923 runners completed the marathon.
Mònica, competed with Salomon trail running footwear, namely a Speed Comb shoe that was a size and a half bigger than usual, a Salomon XA 20 pack and the desert XA Cap.
